Delayed | List3 | #81 of 101 List | Give Blood Twice Per Month For 8 Months

Saturday, March 5th, 2016

I won’t lie.  This scares me.  I hate needles.  Hate.  I remember when I was in Grade Two and I was in the hospital to take out my tonsils and it took 3 nurses and 1 doctor to hold me down to give me a needle in my leg before surgery.  I’m a big suck.  So I thought about giving blood two times per week for 8 months straight.

So I added it to my 3rd list of 101 Things To Do In 1001 Days!

Update:  Due to my Tattoo… I have to wait 6 months | So my follow up reminder is set for September 2017 to get this one completed.  I’ve signed up and registered on the Canadian Blood Services website.

A while back around the holidays… I went to a Men’s Shelter in Peterborough and helped out in the kitchen with meal prep and also serving food to Men.  I actually enjoyed it and I also felt bad when I was not working  that I should be helping out between 4:30 and 6pm Monday to Friday.  Since I’m renting a couch downtown and my shifts have been mostly starting in the afternoons… I’ve been going to the shelter a couple times a week in the morning to basically help clean up.  I clean up the food station where in the mornings there is coffee and a good amount of donated bread from the local supermarkets where the men who stay there have some toast in the morning.  I’ve also gone upstairs to help bring down laundry to help do a load of laundry in the morning before I head out to run some errands before starting my shift.  I’ve sat and talked to some of the Men there and I enjoy talking with the staff.

It’s a humbling experience and I’m glad that I’m volunteering.  I have been working during the suppertime dinner shift… but hopefully I can help out there also if I have some free time that lines up with that time slot.

I’m going to keep volunteering there as long as I can.  I’m also looking forward to volunteering with GreenUp  and help out with some of their events.

Waiting for the Town to get back to me about C and Me doing some volunteer work on the weekends and help coach little kids basketball for one of the town programs.  It would be fun to work with C and coach kids.  It could be something that we do every Sat morning.  And N wants to play in the program and develop his skills… so it could be a triple win!

Here is a shot from the past.  I’m shooting at Lakeside School when I was running Bell Raptorball and I would bring C out with me to hang out and shoot around.  She is my cheerleader.
