The summer after Grade 11… I was in shape. I weighted a buck sixty four and size 34 jeans and in my desert boots… I could stand under the basket on the first day of high school and turn and jump and hang on the rim with one hand. That summer at the courts… I could remember jumping and hanging on with two hands. Just enough fingertips to hang on.
I’m 45 and I want to do that again.
It honestly sounds impossible. With my goal to a healthy lifestyle the weight will come off and I will focus on achieving this goal.
Last night at the courts… I jumped and could touch the bottom of the backboard. Every time I play I will focus time on jumping and jumping and see if I can get a little higher up the backboard over time. I can also track and measure this at the YMCA this winter.
I will update this post and measure off the ground on how high I’m jumping.
My daughter is active. She is playing Volleyball this winter. Last season… she was in advanced trampoline. She enjoys skateboarding, basketball, soccer, track & field, cross country. She wanted rollerblades for Christmas this year and we went out and bought some for her downtown. She wants to ice skate more. She plays road hockey with her little Brother. She said she would like to play hockey. She wants to kick my ass in Tennis and at anything. She wants to race me and beat me all the time. She wants to wrestle with me and pin me down and make me say “uncle” She wants to learn snowboarding, tennis and any other sport out there.
I honestly don’t care what she plays. I just want her to be happy… to always be open to meeting new people and enjoy life. Playing individual sports and team sports is always a good thing. For one… it’s the people you meet and the memories. How everyone is working for a common goal in a team sport.
I just love this campaign below. It also goes for me. No matter what you do… jsdoit and get out there. We all have barriers and this campaign is pretty cool. I hope they keep it up and keep going with it. We all come in different shapes and sizes. The key is just getting out and pushing yourself and working as hard as you can and also having a blast with your mates.
This Girl Can celebrates the women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get. They’re here to inspire us to wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome.
In 1995 this ad was powerful to me. I didn’t have kids at the time. I was in a 6 year relationship with a woman that I wanted to marry and I wanted kids shortly. I wanted them to grow up so we could play sports together. Loved this ad below:
Then this commercial came out.
Chantal… go kick the worlds ass
Graeme went to the Warsaw Caves and he shot a little video with his GoPro. Just wanted to share. I need to get here with the kids. They would love it. Some of the tight squeezes… I would be spooked to try and fit my butt through the openings.
So awesome. You can follow him on Tumblr here.

It would be great to be a part of this club. For 83 years on the first Sunday of May… they open the club for the winter swimming season. A great little doc at such a great club and a lifetime of bonding with each other as the tradition gets passed down through the years to the younger members. I love how it takes 5 years to be in the club and you have to swim at least 3 Sunday’s of every month. If you miss out on too many days… you are kicked out of the club for 12 months.
Below is another short about Australian ocean pool culture in Sydney. Early morning at North Narrabeen, a public pool in Sydney’s northern beaches. Getting there at 6am there were already swimmers in the winter water. Imagine if we all could start our mornings like this. I think the waves and the peaceful mornings would do our soul good.

The one good thing about watching video with you in it…
It makes you want to go to the gym more and work harder. Much more harder. My God. Humbling. Where’s my YMCA pass. Had a chance to hit some balls with Drew who is trying to work through some pain in his legs. He was not that mobile… and I was not floating around the court after some sore legs from ball. We looked like two old men walking around the mall and playing ping pong.
I’m looking forward to playing more Tennis. Need to play Adam, Zuckerberg, Ali, BA and Everyday Graeme. I need to get ready for the senior circuit. It was nice just to knock the ball around with Drew. I need a new ball whacker. Super rough edit of some video shot with the old iPod.
