For the last two years… I’ve tagged two songs as the songs of the year. Why not keep up the tradition. Just to recap… in 2012 it was “The Fear” by Ben Howard. Such a great song that meant so much to me for so many reasons. In 2013 it was a new band to me from Seattle called Ivan & Alyosha with “The Fold”. Both of those songs hit me fast. The I&A song was on the 9th time it was played & it was so early in the year… I knew.
This year is a song I found on Tumblr. I usually search for “mixtape” and download other people’s mixtapes then simply delete songs that don’t fit with me in some way. This song hit me pretty quick also.
It’s a kick ass song. It slowly builds… then it hits you. It’s a kick ass year. Not going to be bullied anymore.
2014 song of the year is “It’s Thunder and it’s Lighting” by We Were Promised Jetpacks.
Below is them in concert:
“It’s Thunder And It’s Lightning”
Right foot
Followed by a left foot
We’ll guide you home before your curfew
and into your bed
Standing on our tip-toes
Peering through open windows
I swear I heard my name
Sit tight with the lights off
Waiting for my brain to start
Trying to work things out
It’s thunder and it’s lighting
And it’s all things too frightening
I could barely see outside
Your body was black and blue
It struck twice there’s nothing new
Your body was black and blue
It struck twice there’s nothing new
Your body was black and blue [x7]
YOUR BODY WAS BLACK
And it’s thunder
And it’s lightning
Coming home
And it’s thunder
And it’s lightning
Coming back
Your body was black and blue
Your body was black and blue
And your body…
I have to say goodnight
I’m leaving before you’re punching out my lights
I have to say goodnight
I’m leaving before you’re punching out my lights
I have to say goodnight
I’m leaving before you’re punching out my lights
I have to say goodnight
I’m leaving before you’re punching out my lights
I’m leaving.
