Peterborough Folk Festival 2016 | Dan Mangan

Monday, August 29th, 2016

This year… I was working during this years festival.  Saturday night… ended up going afterwork up north to a cottage to watch the Tragically Hip’s last concert on CBC.  Afterwork on Sunday… I went to sit on the hill to watch Royal Wood perform followed by Dan Mangan.

This year the lineup was pretty good.  Dan was who I wanted to see.  He was great stripped down with his guitar man by his side and he played a great selections of songs.  It was great to see Shay on the Sunday and catch up with her and to my left was a PTBO Tumblr peep Rachel and her BF.

When the festival gave Dan the nod to wrap it up he came off the stage and played two more songs standing on a chair.  Robots is one of the fan faves to close things down.  I was impressed with so many people knowing the words. 🙂

I will knock Dan off my list of 30 artists to watch live on my101 list.  Below is “Robots”

The Rural Alberta Advantage Live at Massey Hall | Peterborough Folk Festival

Sunday, August 23rd, 2015

At the Peterborough Folk Festival last night… the closing artist was The Rural Alberta Advantage.  I went up to the stage in front of the speakers and just loved the energy and vibe of these three.  Loved the the drummer being close and I just watched him whale on them.

I downloaded 8 songs and just loved this video from YouTube from Massey Hall since all the songs I downloaded are from this video and I just ripped the audio from the video and can’t wait till I need a little “pick me up” on any day.  After watching them live… I know am hooked.  Can’t wait to buy a ticket to the next show in Toronto.

Below is a tiny bit of video.  Being in front of the speakers the sound I heard did not pick up on the iPod so I just tried to line up some audio from the Massey Hall and did my best to sync it.  You get the drift.  Check them out live and you will be hooked too.

Peterborough Folk Festival | Evening Of Music | Sweet Night

I had a nice time at at the Folk Fest last night.  I really enjoyed Evening Hymns who was on the stage just after I arrived.  I also enjoyed the Great Lake Swimmers… but this band caught my ears.

I’ve loved “Arrows” and I’ve used them on a mixtape.  Jonas is the main songwriter and he is from Orono.  The group was founded in 2007 and has some of it’s members that play in other bands like Burning Hell and The Wooden Sky.  They played some new material that they just mastered and will release soon.  I’m looking forward to following this band… and I hope to find them soon at a little intimate local venue up here or in Toronto.
